Birthmarks are pigmented marks on the skin that are present since birth or develop soon after birth. They are benign irregularities on the skin which need no treatment. However, some birthmarks require proper management to avoid associated complications. Birthmarks are mainly skin spots, patches, or lumps that appear shortly after birth. These are examined by dermatologists using an instrument called ‘Wood’s lamp.’ The device aids dermatologist to examine the skin thoroughly using a black light.
