Microphthalmos is derived from a Greek word micros meaning small. It is a disorder in which one or both eyes are small and have anatomic malformations so it is different from nanophthalmos wherein we have also small eyes but no anatomic malformations. Presence of a small eye in the orbit can be incidental finding but in most of the cases, it results in blindness. The incidence of microphthalmos is 14 per 10.
