Query- I am working in a PSU. The senior most of our department is CMO. Are we bound to follow every decision regarding the treatment of patient as ordered by CMO, although he is not of our branch. Kindly clarify that in which areas, we are bound to follow his instructions and where can we take our decisions. ( Name withheld) Answer- Please understand that CMO is your administrative head and you have to follow all administrative orders issued by him.
But he cannot direct you in your professional work. Since he is also not from your specialty , you can refuse his orders on professional work. If he would have been from samespecialty, even then he would not have the power to give orders on your professional work as you are independent as duly qualified medical officer. Can administrative head direct your professional work?
