Ozone is emerging as a new therapeutic agent for female infertility. This article highlights the effect of ozone therapy on tubal, endometrial, vaginal, and ovarian factors and pelvic adhesion formation that could potentially affect female fertility. Ozone is an elemental form of oxygen that occurs naturally in the earth's atmosphere. Due to its high reactivity, ozone exhibits strong antiviral, fungicidal, bactericidal, and antiprotozoal activities. Also, in an aqueous form, ozone has potential therapeutic properties.
The mechanisms of therapeutic actions of ozone include the generation of peroxides by ozonolysis with fatty acids in cells. It increases the expression of intracellular enzymes with antioxidant activity.
