carbuncle is infection of group of hairs follicles,having central necrotic tissue and surrounded by cellulitis,more common in men and in middle aged persons. most common site for it is back or nape of neck or other hairy and prespiring skin,this carbuncle is caused by staphylococcus aureus or streptococcus pyogenes and sometime by methicillin registant staphylococcus. sometime it associated with diabetes mallitus,renal or liver diseases and immunocompromised patients.
