Penicillin is known to cause anaphylactic reactions. Incidence of such reactions with ampicillin is not so frequent but at most of times are fatal. A 26 years old woman was given ampicillin as IV injection after sensitivity test. She died within one hour of injection.
In consumers court, it was pointed out that while giving injection instructions on the vial were not followed which were slow administration within 10 to 15 minutes. Observations of rapid injection, with injection Diazepam instead of adrenaline were made on treatment notes. My query what could be the cause of death, anaphylactic shock or something else?
