The Directorate of Medical Services (DMS) of Tamil Nadu, India, has ordered a private hospital in Chennai to suspend its health services for ten days. This action followed the hospital’s decision to allow a YouTuber into the operation theater to cut the umbilical cord of his newborn and live stream the event online. The DMS responded to the outrage from the medical community and the public. The hospital is now prohibited from providing patient care, including outpatient services, registering and admitting new patients, and performing elective surgeries.
However, it is permitted to continue treating pregnant women who have previously been consulted and registered with the hospital.
