Endometriosis is commonly associated with mental health issues, particularly anxiety, depression, and psychological trauma . However, the roles of trauma type and genetic predisposition in the development of endometriosis are not well understood. To address this gap, a study has examined the impact of genetic predisposition and a history of childhood and adulthood trauma on endometriosis development in 8,276 endometriosis patients and 240,117 healthy females.

The study found that women with endometriosis were more likely to report experiencing childhood and adulthood trauma, including contact, emotional, physical, and sexual traumas.
