A PGI doctor from the Pharmacology department has come up with a simple method to examine inflammatory bowel disease, bringing respite to patients reluctant to undergo a colonoscopy test. Funded by the Biotechnology department, the study was recently conducted by Dr Bikash Medhi and his team. The Inflammatory Bowel disease is of two types – Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis . The treatment includes long term intake of inflammatory drugs. However, before deciding on the treatment,  a patient has to go for colonoscopy.

“In order to check the severity and type of inflammatory bowel disease, a patient is asked to undergo colonoscopy. Most of the times, patient become uncomfortable.
