Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most common type of birth anomaly. About one-fifth of them are critical, including transposition of great arteries and obstructive total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, hence requiring early intervention. On the contrary, simpler lesions like small ventricular septal defects and mild pulmonary stenosis may need intervention as and when necessary or may not need intervention at all. Hence, it is critical to know the appropriate time to suspect and intervene to prevent the adverse effects of CHDs and avoid unnecessary interventions.
