Highlights ·        Dry eye disease (DED) is a common ocular condition affecting millions of people globally.1,2 ·        Artificial tear (AT) formulations are the first line therapy for the management of DED, with one or more FDA-approved demulcents as their active ingredient.3 ·        Demulcents are water-soluble polymers that are applied topically to the eye to protect and lubricate the ocular mucous membrane and relieve dryness and irritation.3 These can be used to replenish and maintain the mucin layer in case of DED caused by mucin deficiency.1
