The Dubai Health Authority has recently announced that all one-day surgery centres must obtain an international accreditation within an 18-month deadline. Failure to do so will result in an automatic downgrading of the surgery centres to clinics, and hence will not be allowed to perform day surgeries. The purpose of accreditation is to provide and implement ways to improve the quality of patient care delivered by the hospital and healthcare facilities on a continuous basis.
The process of accreditation involves both self-assessment and external peer assessment to gauge the level of performance and check if the medical services provided are at par with the established standards.
