Diarrhea is a common illness but a prime reason for infant mortality in India and the world over. The treatment options are simple yet there is a disparity in treatment availability. Current article highlights the leading causes and radical treatment practices to be adopted. According to WHO around 4 million children under age of 5 die of diarrhea/ year in developing countries. Only 29 % of poor population manage to give rehydration oral therapy to infants and 52% of seeking medical help. Diarrhea is the leading cause of malnutrition in infants.
Diarrhea is caused due to intestinal infection by bacterial, viral and parasitic organisms. Rotavirus and Escherichia coli are the major causative agents for the infection.
