In a very noble gesture, the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) had decided to conduct free surgeries for the poor to mark the International Bone and Joint Day under the theme ‘one member, one free surgery.’ In an age where these kind of days are usually celebrated by seminars and awareness walks, the doctors of the Association joined hands to do the surgeries free of cost under certain conditions to benefit the patients. This is indeed a very selfless deed! The IOA took the initiative of conducting 5000 surgeries across India in the span of three days and set a world record; out of which the unit of IOA in Bihar took the initiative of performing free surgeries in the field of orthopaedics for patients coming from modest to poor background.
