Recently I had a patient who was having the high fever. I treated symptomatically for 2 days. The patient came after 4 or 5 days with the prescription and with the reports from another doctor. She was told to see a specialist since she had right-sided pneumonitis. She was even told that the disease requires long-term treatment. The patient was poor and a young patient.

To my mind, it was an acute infection and needed immediate treatment so I put her on ciprofloxacin and other drugs and advice on diet and care. The patient responded well. I have asked her to continue treatment and repeat x-ray after ten days. The patient is better now and recovering. Why has the other doctor dumped the patient? Is it not our duty to look after a patient who needs medical help?
