The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi recently penalized two doctors with a fine of AED 40,000 blood money for causing a child's death due to negligence. According to the reports presented at the court, the child was taken to a hospital in northern emirate after encountering a breathing problem. Post examination, the doctors initiated oxygen therapy for a short interval and discharged him instantly without performing any further investigations. Eventually, the patient’s condition deteriorated after leaving the hospital and later was declared dead.
The court appointed a technical medical committee which stated that the case was of medical negligence. As per the medical reports, the child had a hypoxic episode for which the doctors should have provided the patient with sufficient oxygen for a considerable duration of time with critical monitoring.
