A patient, 2 yrs 9-month-old, was diagnosed to have a tendency to knock knees in his routine pre-school medical check up. Being tall for his age: 3 ft 9.5 inches, he has been advised to take 60,000 units of Vitamin D3, every fortnight, 5 doses. He was an LSCS delivery, with normal milestones & no complaints. Genetically, the male relatives are big built. His present weight is 16.5 kg.
No laboratory tests or X-rays have been done. Clinically no rachitic signs are detected. Is it advisable to give such high doses of Vit D3?
