Recently, a four-year-old boy has been diagnosed with a rare co-infection of dengue and hepatitis A. According to the medical literature, the chances of such infection among children are rare but this case has increased its possibility of occurrence. A 4-year-old boy, son of a vegetable vendor was admitted to the Bharati hospital on 5 th January. Dr. Jitendra Oswal, pediatrician of Bharati hospital, who diagnosed and treated the boy reported that the patient complained of fever and abdominal pain on the right side.
Clinical examinations revealed high-grade fever and mild yellowing of the whites of his eyes. The patient’s liver was enlarged, along with the spleen. The laboratory investigation revealed normal range of red blood cells, normal coagulation profile, low normal platelet count, raised liver enzymes and elevated bilirubin.
