Electrical Test are done as part of the assessment of a patient suffering from a peripheral nerve lesion. Representative muscles of the affected group are stimulated by stimuli of different duration ranging from 300ms pulses down to 0.01ms. denervated muscle is only capable of responding to the longer duration stimuli because the shorter stimuli are too fast for muscle tissue unless very high intensities are used. The shorter stimuli are usually only transmitted via a nerve supply and thus only the innervated muscle can respond to such stimuli.
