A team of doctors from Abu Dhabi for the first time performed fecal transplantation procedure on a 5-year-old boy suffering from chronic bowel syndrome. The child had previously been diagnosed with retarded growth and a narrow colon, which led to frequent severe abdominal pain and constant bloody diarrhea. In this procedure, fecal matter from a healthy donor was mixed with saline, filtered and then injected into the recipient via a colonic tube , thereby, saving the child’s life.
According to the doctors, the 5-year old would require another transplant from a “super donor” who had never received antibiotics or a blood infection and has a strong healthy gut. Source: The National
