Is there a link between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and suicidal tendency? Researchers chose to find out. A cohort study was conducted using data from a Taiwanese database from 1997 to 2012. The study involved 18,960 patients diagnosed with PCOS , each matched with control participants at a 1:10 ratio based on age, psychiatric comorbid conditions, urbanization level, and income.
The findings revealed a significant 8.47-fold increase in the risk of suicide attempts among participants with PCOS compared to the control group. This elevated risk persisted after adjusting for demographic characteristics, psychiatric comorbid conditions, Charlson Comorbidity Index scores, and the frequency of all-cause clinical visits.
