Different procedures are involved in the examination and treatment of cardiovascular and coronary artery diseases, including : 1. An inflatable balloon and a tiny mesh coil called a stent are placed inside a narrowed or blocked artery to re-establish the blood flow in Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA). 2. An Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), which improves the blood flow into the coronary arteries, which in turn supplies oxygen to the heart muscle.
