India observes “National Eye Donation Fortnight” every year between 25th August and 8th September. Initiated in 1985 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) , this event raises awareness on eye donation. More than 70 lakh people have partial blindness in our country, of which more than two lakhs need corneal surgery to restore healthy vision.

However, with only 55,000 corneas being made available annually, there is a huge gap between the demand and supply of donors.
