The tug of war between ayurveda and allopathy streams over training ayurveda students in modern medicine such as surgery and labour has come to the fore with the government taking a stand in favour of the former. In its order, the government stated the students of ayurveda/ homoeopathy should be allowed in government allopathy hospitals as observers. This arrangement should continue until necessary posts under modern medicine were created in ayurveda/ homoeopathy hospitals so that students get the required exposure within their hospitals.
While the practitioners of modern medicine insisted that any type of ‘observership’ cannot be allowed in allopathy hospitals, ayurveda doctors said it was only to familiarise with modern procedures and not part of practicing the system.
