A male patient of 77 years old, weight 77 Kgs non-diabetic, normotensive, developed late onset epilepsy for which he was advised Phenytoin Sodium 300 mg in divided doses in the last week of July last. Investigations ECG, Carotid Doppler, EEG, Echo-cardiogram and other blood tests are normal, Later he developed flatulence, distention abdomen. Endoscopy, colonoscopy are normal.
Epileptic seizures are stopped. What are the possible reasons of flatulence after treatment commenced to Late onset Epilepsy and suggested treatment?
