Synopsis A variety of methods including mechanical and non-mechanical have been used in the termination of second-trimester pregnancies for cervical ripening. Determining which method is suitable depends on a variety of factors including cost-effectiveness, ease of application, efficiency, faster termination of pregnancy, patient’s desire and side effects. The present study compares the induction-to-delivery intervals of Foley catheters and double balloon catheters in second-trimester pregnancy terminations. This week’s “ MED FACT ” discusses a randomized control trial from Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, “ Efficiency of the Foley catheter versus the double balloon catheter during the induction of second-trimester pregnancy terminations: a randomized controlled trial ”.
