Psychiatric genomics is a rapidly growing field with a great potential for improving diagnosis, prevention, prognosis, therapeutic choices, and understanding of the pathogenesis of patients’ symptoms. Genetics has helped identify 20 susceptible genes that affect a person’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and dementias. However, psychiatrists often face several challenges in transferring the knowledge and technologies in the field of genomics into clinical practice. In addition, many clinicians report ethical concerns about integrating psychiatric genomics into clinical practice.
