I was giving oncall duty (24 hrs ) shift. It starts at 5 pm of a day, ends at 9am next day. In the wee hours of the morning I received a call from the ward where there was a commotion. A pediatric (5yrs) patient (known case of NHL with severe anaemia) was absconding. Few minutes later I saw the patient being brought by the patient's parent back to the bed. When I went and examined the patient was unresponsive and had no recordable pulse, BP, heart/chest sound.Corneal reflex was absent.

However his pupil was CONSTRICTED. As a result I was not able to declare the patients death. However I assured the deceased parents to give us time and let us decide further course of action. Meanwhile I called the consultant under whom he was admitted, however he was not available. Side by side the patient's parents were shouting alleging negligence and wanted to take away the baby and refused any more…
