In Government hospital, referring of patients to higher center is a common practice. But it is not so common in private hospitals. In recent experience, a patient with liver problem visited a private liver center which is run by a DM gastroenterology. He advised liver examination for patient and in the meantime, he received a phone call from a doctor of a government hospital in favor of that patient for some concession. He also conveyed that the patient' s father is also a doctor at some other place. After that 50% concession in charges of the liver test was given and advised taking patient to other higher center for treatment.

This was not the case with other patients. My query:-   Whether a center having services of DM gastroenterology and facilities of liver examination isn't competent to treat this case? Or reason is something else? Are there any guidelines for referring the patient?…
