Monkeypox and smallpox viruses can cause severe congenital infection, miscarriages, and increase morbidity and mortality in pregnant women. 1,2 However, the West African clade of monkeypox virus, which induced the current outbreak, causes less severe disease with a low fatality rate. Nevertheless, the impact of this type of viral infection on pregnant women has not yet been studied.
