Recently, the Ministry of health department presented a bill in Lok Sabha to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with the Board of Governors (BOG) for a period of two years. The ministry of State Health Department stated that the second amendment issued by Medical Council of India will be replaced by Indian Medical Council Bill, 2019. The number of members in the governing body will increase from 7 to 12. The Board of Governors will comprise of eminent doctors having loads of experience and will gain all powers and functions that are assigned to MCI under the IMC Act, 1956.
The act ensures transparency in reforms along with the increase in the quality of medical education.
