A study published in the Journal of Pediatrics provides a relatively accurate and convenient maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2 max) prediction equation based on the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and body mass index (BMI) in healthy boys. It is shown that cardiorespiratory fitness is an important health indicator in research, exercise, and healthcare settings. Similarly, VO 2 max, which is often measured during a maximal graded exercise test (GXT), is recognized as the best method for cardiorespiratory fitness measurement.
However, direct measurement of VO 2 max is limited by expensive and sophisticated equipment, qualified examiners, and long duration of testing sessions.
