Anemia continues to be a serious health problem in India, where the life of pregnant women and her child are endangered. Worm infestation, especially hook worm infestation is the major cause of anemia in developing country like India. It is estimated that some 1.3 to 2.0 billion people in the world suffer from helminth infestation. Although rarely fatal, intestinal helminths are associated with anemia, stunted growth, poor nutritional status, and reduced physical and intellectual abilities.

The major human soil-transmitted helminths (STH), Roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms ( Necator americanus  and  Ancylostoma duodenale ) and whipworm ( Trichuris trichiura ) have a marked impact on human health in many parts of the world.
