A Hyderabad-based construction businessman developed life-threatening complications after undergoing a colon polypectomy, prompting the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-I, Hyderabad, to hold a private hospital, its founder-chairman, and a consultant gastroenterologist guilty of medical negligence. The Commission ordered them to jointly pay βΉ6.6 lakh as compensation, along with βΉ50,000 towards legal expenses. In 2022, the 49-year-old patient visited a Hyderabad hospital with digestive complaints. Following diagnostic tests, he was diagnosed with a colonic polyp and advised to undergo a colonoscopy and polypectomy under general anaesthesia.
