Epidemiological studies have shown that the risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization is greater among men than women. Certain small-scale studies have shown that males with low testosterone levels were at a higher risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization. A recent study from Washington State University attempted to understand the relationship between hypogonadism and COVID-19 and revealed that men with low testosterone levels (below 175 ng/dL) were more likely to require hospitalization after COVID-19 infection.
Further prospective studies are required to establish the efficacy of testosterone therapy in preventing hospitalizations after COVID-19 infection among men with hypogonadism.
