Hello to my fellow dr. and respected seniors I would like to discuss my father case here.he is 64 yr,normal built,known hypertensive(was on amlodipine 5 mg),altered lipid profile(now controlled with diet modification).last week i did his profile for diabetes for the frst time --fasting-156,pp-228,Hba1c-raised(mild control). I consulted a specialist.he prescribed the medication as follows- Tab metformin 500 bd Tab gemer p1(metformin500+ glimepride1+pioglitazone15)od Tb amlokind AT od My question is-Is this aggressive treatment justified for frst time diagnosed diabetic pt?
If no - then what should i start with? Which antihypertensive is best for diabetic pt with altered lipid profile(although came normal in last report with diet modification)? Thnx in advance for taking time reading my case.
