At the onset of the winter season and keeping the risk of flu-like incidences in view, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has directed the states to ramp up COVID-19 testing capacity. Certain states in the country, including Maharashtra, have reports of a low number of tests and become a matter of concern. Directives have been issued to address this. Earlier this month, the Health Ministry issued instructions for a safe and limited festival celebration with all safety measures of social distancing, wearing masks, and avoiding mass gatherings.
Yet the instructions were not followed. The chief epidemiologist at ICMR said that the community needs to lead in displaying sustained behavioral changes.
