Currently, RT-PCR is the gold standard for COVID-19 diagnosis. However, one of the limitations is that it detects the presence of the dead-virus remains in various organs even after several days of recovery. And therefore, the sample may be misclassified to be a case of remission. In this regard, the Union Health Ministry has stated that this misclassification of remission must be analyzed by the ICMR and a study to be put forth.
The need for differentiation between the actual reinfection and the mislabelled reinfection had aroused when several reinfection reports came into the picture.
