A study conducted by Indian Medical Association (IMA) determined that a doctor dies earlier than a normal citizen. According to the study, a doctor is expected to live up to 59 years, while an average person lives up to 72 years. IMA has a social security scheme similar to the life insurance, that runs across the country. In India, there are 13,000 members across the nation and 7,200 from the state, who are enrolled in the scheme. The mortality pattern of these members was analysed for eight years by the state president of IMA.
State president of IMA stated that, “ The data shows an average Indian lives up to 69-72 years, whereas a doctor lives only up to 55-59 years which is shocking. It was noticed that most early deaths occur due to cardiac arrests and early malignancies ”. He mentioned that the two age groups of doctors are most vulnerable i.e. between 45-55 years and 55-65 years.…
