India is the Thalassemia capital of the world with 40 mn carriers, who are unknowing passing on this genetic disorder to their children. India has 100000 major thalassemia patients, of whom 50% will not survive beyond the age of 25. Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that reduces the production of functional hemoglobin.
