Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is vividly associated with various cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and is a risk factor for heart failure (HF) and renal failure. Mostly, diabetic patients are hospitalized for HF and dialysis. In the year 2008, the USFDA approved four sodium-glucose cotransporters 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and from thereon trials to determine the safety and efficacy of these molecules were underway. The benefits of these molecules in patients with cardio-renal diseases were also examined.
