Nowadays, it is very common to have ICU and IMCU in every hospital which needs such services.During the days of 1978 to 1994 when I used to attend the patients on emergency even in houses which were the routine at that time, the decision was one of whether there was a possibility of survival with simple measures like parental fluids given even at the house itself or not since no such care like ICU and IMCU available in our place. Later from 1994, when the first ICU and IMCU was started in a corporate hospital, the entire gamut of treatment schedule changed and using the preliminary ventilators we were able to save a number of poison cases.The era was to look after the patient by a single Physician and if needed some more specialists.
