Burn patients are extremely susceptible to pathogenic infections. The hospital environment is one of the major sources of contamination in such patients, and such pathogens are sometimes resistant to antibiotics. Especially Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an endemic organism in many burn units.
The challenging concern for the burn management team is that the infections increase the chance of mortality.
