Bone and joint infections can cause serious morbidity producing significant management challenges. Pathogens can infect bone and joints through the bloodstream or via direct inoculation from a contiguous focus of infection. The most common type of infection in children and elderly is Acute haematogenous.
Bone and joint infections include septic arthritis, prosthetic joint infections, osteomyelitis, spinal infections, and diabetic foot osteomyelitis. These infections can cause acute sepsis with bone and joint destruction, chronic pain, and permanent disability.
