Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) has urged the government to include “right to know about medicines” thereby revising the draft Charter on Patients’ Rights. Union Ministry released a draft Charter on Patients’ Rights which included 17 basic rights of patients and responsibilities of patients and caregivers. The charter was intended with the prime motive to ensure all rights of patients and health care providers are addressed adequately thereby building a strong system.
According to IPA following points needs to be addressed: As medicines may treat the patient but it sometimes harms the patient or can ineffective if not administered properly so if a patient receives important information about medicines in a readable Patient package insert (PPI), along with prescription can be provided by the manufacturer after approval of the drug regulator.
