Globally HIV cases as well as patients on anti-HIV therapy are on rise. New phenomena of "Lipodystrophy", is being increasingly reported in them. We must question such patients for the presence of any abnormal increase or decrease in the size of of their body parts. If the answer is in affirmative, the patient should undergo non invasive radiological imaging to ascertain the cause of this abnormality.
All the cases of lipodystrophy can be satisfactorily diagnosed using Plain Radiography, Ultrasound and Computerized Tomography or even MRI. As per our findings Lipodystrophy most commonly presents with mastomegaly in both genders and the most common site of atrophy is the thigh. With a rise in HIV positive cases and a subsequent rise in patients receiving anti-HIV medications, the number of patients presenting with lipodystrophy are on the rise.
