All Iron preparations are causing severe reactions in severe Anemia patients— Hb Of less than 5. Contrary to the safety statements in literature. Yes, many literature or package inserts of iron preparations mention- Test doses are not necessary/Test dose is required only in people with history Of allergies. This was the general observation with all preparations till recently. But now I don’t know what was the difference— but severe life threatening Reactions are being very frequently seen, with all preparations especially in grossly anemic patients.
Hb less than 5. Even after test dose reactions are seen. Even after 1-hour reactions are being observed. I request everybody to kindly be very careful regarding these and also share their useful experiences and observations.
