A 63 year old on routine investigation has test reports:- Hb 10.4 gm %, serum iron 48 micrograms/ DL, Total iron binding capacity 487 micrograms/ DL, Transferrin saturation 9%., platelets count 71, 000, HBA1C 7.7gm%, kft, Tft, lipid profile in normal range, serum AFP levels in normal range. Liver profile: sgot, sgpt in normal range, s bilirubin, direct, and indirect slightly raised. Alkaline phosphatase normal, ggt, protein slightly raised. Uric acid 7.1 Past history: Diabetic for 21 year, hypertensive for 19 years and non alcoholic cirrhosis for the last 8 years. No history of bleeding from esophageal varices.
Patient is on oral anti diabetics, for hypertension is taking metoprolol, telmisartan and nitrate. Is this patient need any further evaluation? How to treat iron Deficiency anemia? Will metoprolol and nitrate reduce portal pressure.
