A DM Type II & insulin dependent patient was serving in the army & retired In 2014. During the pre-release medical examination, he was recommended 40% disability by the medical board of the military hospital as per govt ruling for existing disease to get the disability pension for life as a pensioner.However, the final sanctioning authority declined the same on the ground that the onset of disease was not in field area but in a peace location.To clarify this one has to understand what is field and peace locations in defense forces. The term field denotes all those areas where families are not permitted to stay and /or having difficult terrain/High Altitudes/ jungles/snow lands/hot areas so to say.
