IMA's stand against NMC diverts the attention from the main issue - the way the MCI is going about its functions. The Minimum Standards Document for medical College speaks for itself how inadequate the MCI is. Outdated requirements, not updating itself with modern technical know-how. The document does not differentiate what is minimum, desirable, essential, and ideal. Teachers eligibility criteria shutting the doors of entry by restricting entry for SRs as 40 yrs.
Not recognising the DNB. Insisting on a three yr SR before entry into teaching cadre etc. Assessment of the institutions: very subjective in the criteria for assessment, fault finding the attitude of assessors rather than fact-finding. There is no appellate body or Ombudsman for appeal against its decisions. (Last two years availability of the Oversight Committee appointed by the SC: but it has no judicial powers).…
